Fishing For Success in Breckland

The Breckland Angling Coaching Club have much to celebrate as they have just been informed that they have been successful in gaining funding of £7000 from the "Local Network Fund For Children".

Way back in June 2003 the club was formed and a number of pilot courses were arranged. Volunteers have given up much of their spare time at weekends to teach Angling Skills.
They have found it great fun and really enjoyable to pass on their knowledge to the youngsters and adults. All the events have all been really successful with the number kids are very enthusiastic and eager to learn better fishing skills and have always been a credit to themselves in their attitude to learning and behaviour.

This grant, is a government grant for community groups that are working with children that may be in some way disadvantaged or disaffected in their childhood or in society due to numerous reasons. With this funding it is hoped it may have an impact on getting these children focussed on Learning and also develop better life skills that are invaluable for adulthood.
no individuals, groups, races, disabilities, ages or sexes will be excluded from this project, as it is open for all. The Norfolk Rural Council, administer this project and many others alike throughout Norfolk.

This funding will enable more events being planned into 2004 so that the club can reach people of all ages, abilities and sexes to provide essential equipment; training of volunteers to a Coaching qualification and to run regular scheduled Angling events around East Anglia over the next 12 months.
The older kids will also be able to gain qualifications in Angling called, Kingfisher Award, a junior version of the adults NVQ. Steve Walker, Project Co-ordinator and Ashley Grant, Project Chairman, would like to thank Martin Sheldrake of thetford Angling Center and all the volunteers that have supported the Breckland Angling Coaching Club over the last year, and it's hoped they will continue their support for 2004.
