Get Hooked on fishing GMB/BACC
(Hands on Framlingham Earl)
Framlingham Earl is just outside Norwich and is the largest school in the area. On the 1st July an event called, Hands On was organised by the schools extended schools co-ordinator. The aim was to get both adults and their children involved in activities together. The GMB Union and Breckland Angling Coaching Club deliver sessions called, Get Hooked on Fishing. Basic tackle tips and setting up equipment were taught. Casting targets were set up where accuracy of casting a ledger to a number of areas. This proved to be great fun and very popular as did another activity using a pole cup. Pellets held in the small cup attached to the end of the pole had to be dropped in a number buckets over a number of different distances. All the activities attracted parents and children to give it a go. Information on future coaching days was given and advice on equipment. The parents also had an additional activity to participate in, which included using a digital camera, creating a folder on a laptop and then printing a select photograph from the fishing activity. This proved to be very successful as a captured moment of sharing a learning experience together, which turned out to be great fun and a picture was produced within a few minutes for them to take home. About 100 people participated in the activity and many are interested putting some of what they learnt into practise at a river or lake in the future. Some adults also said they would like to use a digital camera better and to learn more about computers. Funding came from the GMB Union and The Environment Agency.
