Here are two pictures of Andrew O'Connor with pictures of the 46lb 0oz Pike, that he caught at Wykeham Lakes, Charm Park, Near Scarborough on the 10th March 2012.
Andrew O'Connor has just equalled the largest pike ever caught in England and the 3rd largest pike in the UK. 20 year old Andrew from Skidby, was left stunned and shocked, with his latest capture - his previous PB was just 7lb!
It was the first visit for Andrew to Wykeham lakes, although his travelling partner Scott Miller had fished the venue once before. Both anglers decided to go afloat for their session as it was very bright - not the best weather for a pike session, despite being told by the venue manager Mike Heelis, that all the largest pike including Wyndon Coole's 45lb 14oz last season, had been caught on warm, bright days.
The pair had caught just one jack of about 5lb plus a number of trout including a superb Brown Trout of 14lb+ (another PB) using a mixture of live trout and small smelt deadbaits.
Andrew said, we had gone into a small bay, as the wind had increased so we had looked for some shelter, fishing a very small smelt bait in just 10 feet of water I had a very gentle take and on setting the hooks thought I'd just hooked another trout. The fish then surfaced and both Scott and me knew it was something special and couldn't believe the size of the fish when we got her in the net - it was huge! Then we noticed that the there was only one hook left in it's mouth the other treble caught up in the net.
The fish was weighed on two sets of scales and was witnessed by 7 other people at the fishery, photographs taken and the fish returned to the lake where she went off very strongly.
