Description:
The Riddy is a 19 acre riverside flood meadow owned by the Town Council but managed as a local nature reserve in partnership with the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire and Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charities. The site borders the River Ivel and gets its name from the small stream or riddy which meanders through the western end of the reserve. The north east corner of the site includes a mill pool and there has been a mill building on this site since Norman times, the last being built in 1857. The site is open to the public for informal recreation and the Riddy has a disabled access gate and level pathway. The Riddy is a species rich habitat which is valued by many local people, some of whom have undertaken voluntary work to improve the environment even further. If you would like to volunteer please contact us.
