Green Park Guidance for Anglers:

Longwater Lake is an area of Green Park that is intended to be enjoyed by not just those working on the park, but also those who have an interest in angling.

You must sign in at 100 Longwater Avenue and be in the possession of a fishing rod licence which is available from the Post office or the Environmental Agency.

Persons under the age of 18 years need to be escorted and supervised by adults at all times whilst around the lake and the Estate.

Permits/Licences Costs and Charges:

The rod licences cost £27 for Adults 16 - 65 years, £5 for 12 - 16 year olds, £18 for over £65's and kids under 12 do not require a licence.

There is also an 8 day licence available at £10 and a day licence at £3.75. Apart from the weekly and day licences, the licence is valid for one year and allows two fishing rods per licence holder.

A RDAA permit is required for all RDAA members and these permits can be bought from the Reading District Angling Association (RDAA). Because Green Park is private property, the Green Park Occupiers and staff do not need a RDAA fishing permit, but need to acquire a fishing rod licence.

There is a fine of up to £2000 if a valid fishing licence cannot be produced whilst fishing on the lake. This is enforced by the Environmental Agency. The cost of the permit is as set out by the RDAA and is valid for one year.

The fishing season at Green Park is from 16 June to 15 March.

Fishing hours for RDAA members are from 07:00 until 21:00 during the fishing season.

For the Occupiers and staff with valid rod licences, dawn to dusk applies.

Please see the fishing club rules and RDAA rules on pages 3 & 4 of this document.

We want you to enjoy the lake and the fish stock that it contains and this guide has been designed to provide practical information on the lake and assist you in staying safe whilst you are at Green Park.

Green Park work on a catch and release basis.

The fish are the property of Green Park and should not be removed from the estate.

Footpaths:

There is a network of footpaths throughout Green Park for your use to access the various fishing pegs.

Whilst we maintain these paths to ensure year round access, during heavy periods of rain (particulary during winter months), the footpaths on the waters edge are prone to becoming water-logged. At such times the The Green Park Management Team (GPMT) will place signs out advising of whether a footpath is open or closed and we would ask that you adhere to the restrictions in place.

During these times the fishing pegs will be flooded and not accessible for fishing.

The footpaths are intended to provide an approved route from place to place around the park and so are maintained and cleaned as nessessary.

We recommend that you stay on the paths and aviod walking onto the grass or muddy areas adjacent to the lake as these are not managed to accommodate people in wet or icy weather. Staying on the footpaths will help you avoid injury and keep you clean and dry. Please ensure you wear appropriate footwear.

Severe / cold weather:

Severe and cold weather can create unsafe conditions.

Pooled water can freeze creating slip hazards, snow can hide divots and undulations in the ground.

The GPMT will endeavour to keep footpaths and bridges open for safe use, however there are times that signs will be put out advising you to avoid certain areas.

Please adhere to these warnings as they are for your own safety. It is recommended that you have appropriate footwear at all times in adverse weather conditions avoid grassed areas adjacent to the lake edge as these can be particulary slippery during cold weather.
