Description: The Club : Trent and Mersey Canal
The Pride of Derby lease from British Waterways 12 miles of the Trent and Mersey Canal. The Canal available to the members of the 'Pride of Derby' extends from the Trent and Mersey`s confluence with the River Trent, adjacent to the point of the River Derwents confluence at Shardlow to Stretton near Burton on Trent (The length leased by the 'Pride of Derby' excludes 1.5 miles in the area of Weston-on-Trent).
Good sport can be enjoyed on all of the canal but the areas below the various locks and in the Boatyards around Shardlow enjoy the best reputations. For the angler who is prepared to walk some distances excellent fishing can be had where far bank cover of trees is available. The predominant species of fish to be caught are Roach, Perch and gudgeon to be caught in all areas with large Chub to 5 lbs and Bream to 6 lbs in areas around boats and Boatyards and far bank cover. Carp up to 20 lbs are frequently caught in the area below Swarkstone locks.
Access is very easy from various marina car parks to our own locked car parks in two areas, ( many areas of the Canal are very suitable for disabled or infirm anglers with 12 pegs suitable for wheelchairs sited in the area below Swarkstone Locks )
