Description: Around 2001 this former quarry underwent a dramatic transformation.
Originally up to 50ft deep the lake did not produce many good nets of Fish due to the very cold, clear water. A scheme lasting two years was Carried out to reduce the depth by infilling with inert material (soil, clay, etc.) this also allowed the re-profiling of the banks to create a better fishing environment.
The scheme was carried out by Webfell Ltd and was overseen by the Environment Agency and Derbyshire County Council. The completed Lake is now seen as a model for future schemes of this nature. The reduced depth that now averages 7ft has seen a good increase in Fish catches with Bream, Roach, Tench and Carp the predominant Species.
In Spring 2004 a grant from the Environment Agency has allowed the Construction of six specially designed pegs suitable for wheelchair Users, these along with stone paths and very good parking have made Sowbrook lake our best venue suitable for disabled anglers.
