Description:

Greaves End is a 2 acre private fishing pond owned and operated by Jill and Darren Cole. The pond is set in 7 acres of rural and tranquil setting and is subject to an ongoing programme of improvements in both fishing and landscaping terms.

Fishing here is from a mixture of wooden platforms and banks with many of the pegs suitable for anglers with disabilities. Peg improvements are planned for the winter of 2011 where we hope to see purpose-built permanent pegs to all areas. We are also hoping to refurbish the existing islands, introduce a couple of new islands and carry out bank retention works this winter also. If you would like to volunteer for a working party weekend to get involved and assist in the work this winter, please give Darren a call on 07795 321 674, any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is ample parking to the right hand side as you enter the fishing area. There are also toilet facilities located at the pond, this is cleaned on a weekly basis.

In terms of the pond itself, Greaves End has become one of the premier fisheries in the area over the last few years. The water averages approximately 5 feet deep with the odd hole and gully here and there which can hold the fish. A chart of the depths is displayed at the pond edge along with a map of the pond so that you can judge where you would best like to fish in the day. There are 3 islands dotted about, and these can be the areas to target the carp present. We are hoping to refurbish the islands this winter as they have suffered erosion and you never know when you return in 2012 they may be a few more here and there!

There are 20 fishable pegs on the pond and 8 can be reserved for the overnight angler (available 24 hours - noon - noon). We restrict overnight anglers to 8 to ensure that the overnight fishing experience is as pleasurable and hassle free as possible.

The water is popular with anglers who use specimen tactics to target the carp that run to 32lb. Boilies and large pieces of meat will pick out the bigger fish. Bream and Tench run to 8lb and can be caught on corn and worm from all around the lake. Roach and Rudd run to 3lb, with Perch, crucians and Ide making up the remainder of the stock. The water holds catfish that run to 74lb
