Description:
Hornsea Mere is the largest natural lake in Yorkshire covering almost 324 acres. As this is a nature reserve first and foremost, there is only a relatively small area of bank that is made available for fishing. More popular for its' wildlife, you will see hundreds of bird spotters from the minute you get there till you go home.
There is only about 400 yards of bank that is available for fishing. The Mere was known at one point for the quality of its roach fishing and even today there is still a chance of a 2lb roach, with maggot, bread and caster giving you the best chance of taking one of these fish. There are carp present to 25 lb, but locating them can be a real problem. Bream are also caught with the best fish being a little over 6lbs but the majority averaging a little over the pound mark.
Pike to almost 30lb are present in decent numbers with plenty of fish over the 10lb mark. Perch make up the other species in the water.
