Bream to 18lb Common Carp to 40lb 8oz Grass Carp to 37lb 8oz Koi Carp to 32lb Mirror Carp to 53lb 8oz Eels to 5lb Perch to 3lb Pike to 27lb 2oz Rudd to 2.5lb Tench (Female) to 10lb 4oz Tench (Male) to 9lb 9oz Farnham Angling Society Rules: The most common breaches of our rules are in relation to litter (byelaw 4.h.), the use of barbed hooks (byelaw 4.b.1 - Hook checks will be carried out by the Head Bailiffs), the lack of an unhooking mat (byelaw 4.b.2), dogs off their leads (byelaw 4.f), fishing beyond the half way point (covered by byelaw 2.a), the use of unsafe rigs (byelaw 4.b.6), the use of BBQs at Lodge Pond or Frensham Great or Small Pond (byelaw 4.o.) and unattended tackle and swims (byelaw 4.q.). To reduce any risk of spreading any types of diseases, please ensure that all of your wet fishing equipment is thoroughly dried between fishing trips, as Members seen arriving with wet gear (byelaw4.b.4), will be asked to leave: this applies to all FAS fisheries. 1. Bye-Laws a. These Bye-laws are issued in accordance with the constitution (see separate booklet) and must be obeyed. b. Membership for coarse Members will be from 1st April to 30th March in the year following. 2. General Behaviour a1. All Members will at all times when fishing, or visiting, any Society waters, behave in a manner that will not give offence to Riparian owners, other members, or the General Public. a2. On all FAS waters you may only fish halfway across the fishery from your swim, and on either side halfway toward the next swim. On single bank fisheries, you are restricted to fishing halfway toward the swim on either side or yours. b. The Executive Committee strongly recommend that members follow the Countryside Code and the National Water Sports Code. c. In addition to the Society's Bye-laws they will comply with any Bye-laws imposed on the Society e.g. Environment Agency, National Trust, Forestry Commission. d. Swims designated as disabled are given priority for disabled members. Members using one of these swims must vacate if requested to by a disabled member who wishes to fish the swim if no other designated swims are available. e. Members are not permitted to swim or bathe in any Society waters. f. All alcohol and illegal drugs are banned on all FAS waters. g. No firearms allowed on any Society venue unless those authorised by the Farnham Angling Society Executive Committee. 3. Seasons a. Coarse Angling Season is from the 16th June to the 14th March inclusive with the exception of still waters which is at the owners discretion. b. Trout Angling Season is 1st April to the 30th September inclusive for Brown Trout, but may be extended for Rainbow Trout. (31st October) c. Members will be informed if a modified season will apply on any of the Society's waters. 4. Bankside Rules a. All members will at all times when fishing or visiting the Society's waters be in possession of a current Membership permit in a complete condition. They will show said permit to any other member, Bailiff or Officer of the Society, and or any Riparian Owner or his agent/ representative upon request. b.Members may fish with a maximum of two rods at any one time providing that by doing so they do not occupy more than one swim and in no way inconvenience a fellow member. Where partners avail themselves of the provision of the Constitution para 5.3.b.i, the Member and partner may only fish with a maximum of two rods. (one rod each). b.1 Hooks used must be single only. Size 16's and smaller(16, 18, 20's Etc) may be micro barbed. Size 14's and larger(14, 12, 10's Etc) must be barbless. Pike anglers may use trebles with one bait holding barb. Plugs and Spinners must have all barbs on all hooks crushed so they become barbless (See Bye-law: s.). Trout anglers may use single, barbed flies. b.1a No two hook systems allowed on any Society waters. Pike anglers may use two trebles on a wire trace, one trace per rod (See Bye-law: s., page 8/9). b.2 All Members must be in possession of an unhooking mat of sufficient size and thickness so as to prevent fish from being damaged. Fish are not to be placed directly on the bank, under any circumstances. b.3 No wet equipment to be brought on to any fishery. Unhooking mats, weigh slings landing nets and keepnets must be dry on entering any fas venue. b.4 No bent hooks and no long shanked curved hooks. b.5 No permanently fixed lead larger than 1oz. (28 gram) See Fish Care point 6 (page 14). c. Fishing tackle and all accessories will in no way obstruct the bank area and will not present a hazard to other anglers or members of the public. d. Any bait bans that are imposed will be obeyed. e. No boats are allowed except for radio controlled bait boats. f. Members may take dogs unless precluded by the terms of a lease or other local Bye-laws as in para 2.c. All dogs will at all times be kept on a lead and are not allowed to interfere with other Members sport, or the general public. Members who walk their dogs round venues must be in possession of a pet waste bag in case their dog fouls and a failure to do so will result in them being asked to leave by a bailiff. Dogs even on leads, are not allowed at Somerset Bridge or Winchfield Court Farm Pond. g. Bailiffs are allowed to override the night fishing restrictions on Frensham Little Pond, Mill Lane, Tarn Pond and Warren Pond, by staying for a maximum of 4 nights when covering other bailiffs' duties. h. Members will not leave litter or discard hooks, nylon or other line, or shot on or in Society waters/banks. Members will be responsible for the tidiness/cleanliness of any peg/swim they may be fishing. i. All Members will have their own landing net whilst fishing. Landing nets may not be shared between Members under any circumstances. j. A maximum of 50lb of fish to be retained at any one time in a keepnet. With the exception of Carp (not including Crucians), Catfish, Pike, and Barbel (except the Barbel from Kings Pond), fish may be retained in knotless keepnets of a minimum length of 8 feet and minimum diameter of 18 inches. No fish may be retained by any other method, including sacks, tubes stringers etc. However, members should seek to minimise the time that the fish are so retained and in no circumstances will this exceed 6 hours. Officially appointed Bailiffs and Officers of the Society have the authority to order the release of fish from keepnets when, in period of hot weather or other adverse circumstances they consider retention would be harmful. In exceptional circumstances they may ban the use of keepnets but this will normally be done on the authority of the Executive Committee. j.1 Officially appointed Bailiffs and Officers of the Society have the authority to inspect keepnets and prohibit the use of any they consider unsuitable. j.2 On all FAS waters, no Carp to be held in any type of keepnet or sack except during matches in which two keepnets are required, one of which must have a carp bottom for retaining carp. No fish over 10lb may be retained in a keepnet for any reason on any water. These carp must be (weighed) and returned immediately. k. l. Members will not use a gaff of any sort to assist in the taking of any fish on Society waters. m. Umbrellas and Stormsides may be used on all waters all season, bivouacs are permitted from 1st October until the end of the season on Frensham Great Pond and Frensham Little Pond only. An umbrella is regarded as a round or oval shape with a collapsible internal frame. n. The use of fishing shelters is permitted on all waters, except when prohibited by a local Bye-Law. A fishing shelter can be an umbrella or bivvy which is green, brown or black in colour and fits into the swim without obstructing paths or causing nuisance to other Members. o.i. Members are prohibited from lighting fires on any of the Society's waters. o.ii. At Lodge Pond, Frensham Great Pond and Frensham Little Pond, basic primus or cooking stoves may be used, but BBQs of any kind are not permitted. p. Members must not cause damage to bankside vegetation and trees. q.i. No member may leave their swim unattended for longer than 45 minutes, apart from bailiffs that are undertaking their duties. q.ii. Irrespective of the length of stay, no member may leave tackle in the water unattended. q.iii. You may leave 1 bucket or 1 item of tackle in 1 swim to reserve it for your use, whilst you return to your vehicle to get your fishing tackle, this must take no longer than 45 minutes. q.iv. When already occupying 1 swim, no member may place a bucket or any other item in any other swim. r.i. Junior members may be accompanied by a parent/guardian. r.ii. Junior members are not permitted to fish at night, between 1 hour after sunset and 1 hour before sunrise, unless accompanied by a senior member, parent or guardian. A Junior member night fishing with a senior member must occupy the same or adjacent swim. A Junior fishing with a guardian or parent must fish the same swim. The Senior or Parent/Guardian must also accompany and be responsible for the Junior member at all times. In the event that a Junior is found to be fishing alone 1 hour after sunset or 1 hour before sunrise, the emergency contact number(s) in the back of their permit will be called and the Junior will be required to be collected from the water. s. PIKE and PREDATOR FISHING. To protect Pike, Perch and Catfish in Society Waters, a number of special Bye-laws have been drawn up to cover Pike and Perch fishing. These are: s.i Only Members, Exchange Members and Guests who are in possession of a special 'PIKE FISHING PERMIT' will be allowed to fish for Pike in Farnham Angling Society waters. These permits will be available free of charge to all members who attend a Pike 'Teach- In' and satisfy Society Officials that they are in possession of the minimum of suitable equipment to fish for and handle Pike when caught. Suitable equipment will be as detailed in the Bye-laws below. Dates and venues of the Pike 'Teach-In' will be available from any Society Official or printed in the Handbook. s.ii Suitable equipment will include:- s.ii.a. Monofilament main line must have a minimum breaking strain of 15lbs. Braided main line must have minimum breaking strain of 50lbs. s.ii.b. Traces made of Nylon covered wire, unless stainless steel, are forbidden. These must be a minimum length of 24in (60cm) and not less than 25lb breaking strain must be used. s.ii.c. Large knotless landing net with a minimum of 36in. long arms. s.ii.d. Large unhooking mat. s.ii.e. 12in long artery forceps. s.ii.f. Side cutters able to cut problem hooks when caught in the soft throat tissue or gill rakers. s.ii.g. An adequate Carp/Pike weigh sling. s.ii.h. A sensitive and effective bite detector system which shows 'drop back' as well as runs. s.ii.i. No more than two treble hooks may be used on any one trace and they must be semi-barbless or barbless. s.ii.j. All plugs and spinners must be barbless as per Bye-law 4.b.1 on page 8. s.ii.k. Fishing for Pike with live or dead fish baits is only permitted from the 1st October until the 14th March in any Society water. Lures, plugs and spinners may be used from 1st April until 30th March. s.ii.l. When Perch fishing with live or dead baits or lure fishing, a wire trace must be used. t. Members may purchase one Guest Ticket on any one day. Members must be in possession of their current Handbook when purchasing Guest Tickets. These must be purchased prior to arrival at the fishery from one of the Society's agents listed in this Handbook. The Guests name will be entered on the Guest Ticket and the Member must accompany and be responsible for his/her guest/s at all times. u. Parking is generally good on all Society waters. Location of the car parks is described in detail for each water within the map section of this Handbook. At all times, members should park in such a manner as not to cause obstruction, or inconvenience, to Riparian Owners, the General Public or other Members. v. No bicycles may be ridden around the Badshot Lea Ponds. w. Competitions run by the Society, either on Society or other waters will be run under 'Farnham Angling Society' match rules. Waters are closed prior to matches, check details in the Match Fixtures List. x. Trout Section rules if differing in any way from the Society's Bye-laws will be made known to members of the Trout Section by their Secretary after the approval of the Executive Committee. y. All gate keys and Handbooks either issued or replaced remain the property of Farnham Angling Society. z. No bait-boats are allowed on Frensham Little Pond. 5. Movement of Fish a. The movement of all fish, whether dead or alive, is strictly prohibited for any reason whatsoever other than, by or authorised by Fishery Management personnel. This includes the movement of fish on FAS fisheries, i.e. between lakes, ponds and rivers. 6. Junior Membership a. Juniors under 10 (ten) years of age on the 16th June in the season in question will not be required to pay a Joining Fee or Annual Subscription providing that they only fish the Society's waters when accompanied by an Senior paid up Member and, if the member is fishing they must both fish in the same swim. They may only fish with one rod each. 7. Wading on Farnham AS fisheries a. Wading is undertaken at your own risk. If in any doubt, do not do it. b. Ensure you use a 6-foot long stick to ascertain the depth of water all around you as you wade out. c. Only make small steps with feet close to the bottom so you are aware of all slopes and holes. d. Do not wade if you are going to interfere with another anglers swim. 8. Maximum Stay A member may only fish the same swim for a maximum continuous period of 7 days, after which the member must vacate the swim for the next 3 days. (One day is defined as a full day or any part of one day). 9. Surface Fishing Surface fishing is only permitted using one rod on all FAS waters and a second rod may not be used when surface fishing. 10. Catfish Retention Catfish which are caught from Horseshoe Lake, Pumphouse Lake, Stillwater Front and Back Lakes and Tarn Pond must be placed in the retention nets at the fisheries for removal. Any Member or Guest not doing so, will face disciplinary action, as none of the venues are CEFAS approved for Catfish. 11. Commercial Media Only Members who have obtained the express written consent of the Executive Committee may take photos or film on FAS venues for commercial use. 12. Close Season Access Close season access is only available to members only whilst fly fishing at Dockenfield, Somerset Bridge and Woodside Farm. 14. Traps and Trapping Members are not to move or interfere with Crayfish traps, Cormorant tapes or Catfish retention nets on any FAS fisheries. 15. Retention Slings Members may use a retention sling to retain fish for up to 20-minutes after capture to enable safe recuperation and handling of fish before returning. 16. Distance from Rods/Swims Members must be within 8 yards of the centre of the front of their swim, but when fishing to snags must be within 1 yard of their rods at all times. 17. Drones Drones may not be used within any fenced fisheries without the express written permission of the Executive Committee. Booking a Night Ticket A Night Ticket is required at the following waters between the dates shown below: 1. Mill Lane - 1st April until 31st October. 2. Tarn and Frensham Little Pond - 16th June until 31st October. 3. Warren Pond - 1st March until 31st October. *During the periods of the season that the night ticket system is in force (see above), Guest tickets may not be issued for night fishing on Frensham Little Pond, Mill Lane, Tarn Pond or Warren Pond. RULES APPLYING TO ALL NIGHT TICKET WATERS a. Night fishing times are 10.30pm until 5.00am. b. Members may book 28 days in advance, but may only hold one Night Ticket code at any one time. c. If you have to cancel, do so before 4.00pm on the day booked (Failure to notify the night ticket system operator could be seen as an abuse of the night ticket system). d. Members trying for a cancellation ticket must NOT ring before 5.00pm. e. Members that have booked a Night Ticket may fish ANY swim on their chosen fishery that night, However by choosing one of the 'Night Priority' swims, it enables the ticket holder to require another member without a night ticket to vacate it one hour before sunset. (sunset will be defined as the daily published 'Lighting up' time.) f. Having finished their session, a member may call to make their next Night Ticket booking, after 3.30pm the following afternoon. g. Night Tickets are NOT available for guests. h. Any member found abusing the night ticket system will face disciplinary action. i. Your swim has to be vacated by 6.30pm after the last night booked. SPECIFIC RULES APPLYING TO EACH WATER Mill Lane- Restricted to 19 anglers per night + 1 bailiff ticket. 1. Members may book one, two or three nights at a time, but after a two/three night session must remove their tackle from the fishery for the following two/three nights. 2. Members may extend their session to a maximum of three nights if tickets are available, these must be booked after 3.30pm on the afternoon following their last session. If the member was successful in extending his session to two or three nights he will be given a new Night Ticket code number. 3. Twenty swims are signed 'Night Priority' (See rule e. above). Tarn Pond- Restricted to 12 anglers per night + 1 bailiff ticket. 1. The first two nights of the season are drawn - 12 tickets per night. Details of the draw are in your Members Handbook on the relevant fishery page. Night Ticket bookings for the 18th June may be booked from the 20th May (28 days in advance). 2. From Sunday night to Thursday night (18th June to 31st October), Members may book one, two or three nights at a time, but after a two/three night session must remove their tackle from the fishery for the following two/three nights. i.e. you can fish up to 3 nights, such as Sunday night to Tuesday night, Monday to Wednesday nights or Tuesday to Thursday nights. 3. Members may extend their session to a maximum of three nights if tickets are available, these must be booked after 3.30pm on the afternoon following their last session. If the member was successful in extending his session to two or three nights he will be given a new Night Ticket code number. 4. Twelve swims are signed 'Night Priority' (See rule e. page 12). Warren Pond - Restricted to 5 anglers per night. Night ticket bookings for the 1st March may be booked from 1st February 1.. Members may only book one night at a time and cannot book another until after 3.30pm, on the afternoon following their last night. 2. Five swims are signed 'Night Priority' (See rule e. page12). Frensham Little Pond - Restricted to 10 anglers per night + 1 bailiff ticket. 1. The first two nights of the season is drawn - 10 tickets per night. Details of the draw are in your Members Handbook on the relevant fishery page. Night Ticket bookings for the 18th June may be booked from the 20th May (28 days in advance). 2. Members may only book one night at a time and cannot book another until after 3.30pm, the following afternoon.
