Description:

Just over ¼ a mile of prime double bank Wye salmon and coarse fishing just a few miles downstream of Hereford. Good fly and spinning water for salmon with a number of good pools. The Lechmere's Ley is well known as one of the more productive in the middle river. A ghillie manages the beat for the owner and is included in the price of a salmon day ticket. A tip of £10 a day is suggested.

Access is very easy with gently sloping banks and numerous croys to stand on. If wading, the gravel river bed makes for relatively easy going. The beat is home to large shoals of dace and chub to considerable size although the good numbers of barbel are the main attraction for coarse anglers. Like many beats in this part of the river, some large pike are also present. Coarse anglers are advised to travel light as some swims are a fair distance from the parking area. Coarse anglers must also note that the owner reserves the right to fish up to 3 salmon rods (not used frequently).

COARSE And SALMON ANGLERS NOTE:

Coarse rods must note that a salmon rod may also be on the beat and want to fish downstream through your swim. In such cases the coarse angler must temporarily give way to the salmon rod 3 coarse rods daily during the salmon season. It is possible to increase this to 4 rods, depending on river conditions, at short notice (day before) by telephoning the Booking Office.

Guiding

Colin Richardson is the long serving ghillie on the beat working Monday to Saturday and is available to help salmon rods. Please contact the Foundation for his contact details to check river conditions. Please note that no other instructor/guides are permitted to operate on the fishery. A well appointed hut is available for salmon fishers Monday to Saturday

Throughout the middle and lower Wye, canoe traffic can be heavy from 10am to 4pm at weekends during the warmer months, and especially during bank holidays. No dogs are permitted on the beat.
