| Description: The lake itself is very irregular, both in shape and depth, from well over 15 feet to almost nothing, which makes for interesting fishing. There are some small islands within casting range, and a small stream enters at one end. Catching is possible under most conditions, and catches are improving all the time.

Rules:
In an effort to simplify the presentation of club rules as defined in the handbook, the extract below gives an outline of the general fishing rules of the club, and can be printed for reference. It is also likely to change from time to time. The handbook has a more extensive list of the rules and should always be used as the definitive guide. As with all things, common sense should prevail, and if a rule is queried, please be guided by the bailiff. Water specific rules can be found in the Waters section. General Rules: 1. Members: Members must carry their membership card and a current National Rod Licence when fishing on the Society's waters. Any member allowing their membership card to be used by any other person or encouraging the use of Society waters by non-members will be expelled. The committee will consider the expulsion of any member who acts against the best interests of the society. Juniors: Junior members of the club are to be encouraged at all times to fish correctly and respect their surroundings. It is not recommended that juniors fish alone at any time. Some of our waters expressly forbid this. Juniors are not permitted to night fish, but to enable juniors of 14 and 15 years old to gain valuable experience in handling fish in the hours of darkness, they will be allowed to night fish provided that they fish with an adult member in the same swim or a recognised double swim. They can use two rods maximum and must have their own unhooking mat. This is for education purposes to protect our valuable fish stocks at risk of damage when they reach the age of 16 and they can night fish on there own. 2. Safety: No fire lighting, camping or picnicking is allowed on Society waters. No fish are to be transported from one water to another without written consent of the Society. Any Zander or other non-native species which the EA requires to be removed which is caught from club waters must be removed and details reported to the Club Secretary. It is recommended that anglers use a suitable antiseptic to treat hook holes or other wounds on fish before returning them to the water. If you are unsure how to do this, ask a bailiff. 3. Nets: Keepnets shall be a minimum of 8-feet long and 16-inches diameter (or equal area), made of knotless minnow-mesh or smaller and used only on waters where they are permitted (see restrictions on some waters). All landing nets shall be of knotless mesh. When fishing for specimen fish, carp, tench, large bream or pike, landing nets must have 36-inch arms, or equivalent if round, and an unhooking mat is recommended to be a minimum of 36-inches by 24-inches and one-and-a-half inches thick. 4. Bait: All live fish, including eels and game fish, plus dead coarse fish, are banned as bait on all the Society's waters. Marine dead baits, and artificial lures only may be used. No metallic dyes may be used to colour bait used on the Society's waters. No nuts, trout pellets (including trout pellet-based groundbait) or particle baits may be used on the Society's waters, with the exception of correctly prepared sweetcorn, hemp, tares, stewed wheat and party blend, chick peas, maples, maize and black eyed beans. The use of bait boats is not permitted on any of the Society's waters. THE USE OF ROWING BOATS. ONLY BAILLIFS MAY USE ROWING BOATS AS LONG AS THEY ARE WEARING A LIFE JACKET AND THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE PRESENT. A maximum of 2kg of bait may be used per 24 hour session. 5. Rods: No angler may leave rods unattended while fishing. The maximum distance away from the rod butt is 2 metres. If rods are unattended, bait must be removed from the water and the hook secured against wildlife. 6. Alcohol: No alcohol may be taken to any of the Society's waters. 7. Litter: No litter may be left anywhere. You must clear up any litter left in any swim, whether it was there when you arrived or not, including tea bags and cigarette butts. 8. Rigs: Tethered rigs also known as bolt rigs are banned on all Society controlled waters. The tackle should be free to slide off the line if a breakage should occur. Match Rules: 1. Members: Everyone fishing in any match run by the society or where they represent the Society, must carry their membership card and a National Rod Licence. 2. Equipment: Competitors may only use one rod and one hook unless the specific rules of the competition allow more. Spare rods may be made up. 3. Bait: No Livebaiting, deadbaiting or spinning during a competition unless the specific rules of the competition allow. The clubs bait rules will apply on all competitions on Society waters. 4. Fish: All fish in season will count with the exception of game fish and pike. 5. Fair Play: All fish presented for weighing must have been caught during the competition. a. Dead fish may be accepted for weighing at the discretion of the match steward. b. All live fish must be returned to the water as soon after weighing as possible (unless club rule 2 applies) c. Any member netting, purchasing or receiving fish and falsely representing them to the Society as having been taken a fair manner by themselves will be expelled. d. Any member detected in unfair angling or in any way interfering with another member while angling shall render themselves liable to expulsion from the competition. e. Any member intending to take part in a roving competition shall not groundbait or feed the water of the match venue by any method, nor be permitted to fish the match venue during the 72 hours preceding the competition. 6. Competitions: Start and end times for fishing in all Society competitions are published in the Fixture list and on the Web Site. a. Members wishing to fish in an away match must notify the Match Secretary at least 7 days before the match. b. If less than 5 members attend the fixture, it will be abandoned. (Challenge Cup competitions only). The anglers attending may jointly decide to postpone a fixture. The match will be rearranged where possible. c. In all competitions late arrivals will notify the steward before starting to fish. i. At peg down competitions, late arrivals ***must draw from the spare pegs (if available). ii. In roving competitions, no member shall fish within 15 yards of another member or overtake the person drawn previously without their permission, unless they have selected a peg. iii. In peg down competitions a competitor must fish within one yard of his peg (unless agreed with the steward). iv. If, in the match steward's opinion, the venue on the fixture list is unfishable, a vote is to be taken at draw time to transfer to a fishable venue. If the majority are in favour of fishing an alternative venue, the match will count for the relevant competition. v. Club pools are £5 and optional. vi. The match secretary shall divide prize pools prior to the match in a fair manner depending on takings and anglers fishing. vii. The match steward's decision on all matters relating to the competition on the day is final. 7. Trophy Fish: All fish entered for club trophies which are not caught in competition must be witnessed by at least two other people. Full details of venue, species weight, date of capture and witnesses names and addresses must be sent to the **match Secretary** as soon as possible and at the very latest by 19th March. 8. General Rule 5 to apply. Net limit 60lb. Keepnets containing in excess of 60lb will be weighed in at 45lb. Keepnets containing in excess of 75lb will be disqualified Cup and Medal Points System Challenge Cup Matches marked with an asterisk on the fixture list count for Challenge Cup points as follows: 12 points for 1st place 11 points for 2nd place etc Each angler will count their best 8 results. Juniors shall be awarded 1 point for attendance. Summer Shield: To be fished in two matches in the fixture list. Points to be awarded in each match as for the Challenge Cup. The sum of the points achieved by each competitor in both matches will determine the winner. In the event of a tie the heaviest total weight of fish caught will win. Winter Trophy To be fished in two matches in the fixture list. Points to be awarded in each match as for the Challenge Cup. The sum of the points achieved by each competitor in both matches will determine the winner. In the event of a tie the heaviest total weight of fish caught will win. Water Rules: Night Fishing w/ Permit only 2 rod maximum Barbless/Microbarbed hooks only Close all gates No dogs Water Notes This is a flood relief lake and may rise quickly. Take care and leave immediately should the water behin to rise. Anglers may drive to the lower gate to drop off and pick up tackle. A new car park is planned across the river. Do not drive over the bridge in its current condition. |
