Lake Rules:

This is a members only water

There is a public footpath right around this venue, so please be considerate to other users.

The fishing times for this water are set by the land owner, any member caught, fishing outside these times will face disciplinary action.

Please note there is no night fishing allowed on any Grantham Angling Association water, any member found doing so will be expelled from the association.

Please report any sightings of Cormorants, Mink or Otters to a committee member or by text or email to the secretary.

Fishing rules

1. That this Association be called THE GRANTHAM ANGLING ASSOCIATION

2. That the Association be OPEN TO ALL. Any proposition to alter this RULE must be carried by at least two thirds of those members voting at the A.G.M. If there is a two thirds majority in favour of a proposition to alter Rule 2, then there will be a postal ballot of the total membership.

3. That the officers of the Association shall consist of President, Vice Presidents, a chairman and vice Chairman of committee, Treasurer, Secretary and assistant Secretary, plus a Committee of twelve and water bailiffs who shall be elected annually at the AGM. The office of Water Bailiffs may be fulfilled by Committee Members. The Committee will serve for periods of three years, each year four will retire. The Chairman and Vice Chairman, also Secretary, Assistant Secretary and Treasurer will be elected for three years. Should there not be enough nominations to complete the numbers required for the committee, the Committee have the right to co-opt members to fulfill this requirement. The Fly Fishing section will consist of six officers, the Head River Keeper (ex officio) and six members who will serve for three years. The Head River Keeper will be appointed by the Committee and will be responsible for the appointment of River Keepers, who may or not be members of the committee. The officers of the Fly Section will consist of Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer.

4. That the Committee shall have the power to call a Special meeting at any time, seven to form a quorum, four for the Fly Fishing Section.

5. That the Secretary and Treasurer be provided with all necessary Books and Stationery.

6. The Committee shall have the power to adjudicate on any dispute or question not already provided for within the rules. Any appeal may be made at the AGM.

7. That all future Rules and alterations to Rules shall be decided at the AGM. Members wishing to make a new rule or amendment to present Rules must send in writing to the Secretary their new Rule or amendment to Rule and be present at the AGM. Their letter to be in the hands of the Secretary fourteen days prior to the AGM.

8. Nominations for Officers and Committee must be submitted in writing to the Secretary, duly proposed and seconded at least fourteen days prior to the AGM.

9. Any member wishing to serve on the Committee must attend the AGM, or a letter be sent explaining his absence, the meeting to decide if he be eligible for nomination. Nominees for the position of Officers shall have served two years on the Committee within the previous six years.

10. If any official or Committeeman absents himself from any three consecutive meetings without apology or extenuating circumstances, the Committee shall declare his seat vacant and shall have the power to co-opt the next highest one in the ballot at the previous AGM.

11. The financial year will end on the 31st December each year. The AGM will be held on the last Friday in February, venue to be announced, commencing at 7-30pm. Admission only by the production of a membership book. The Fly Fishing AGM will be at least one week before the AGM of the parent body.

12. Delegates to an organisation local or national to which this Association is affiliated shall be elected from the Officers and Committee at the first Committee meeting after the AGM.

13. Any GAA member or Affiliate club who separately or collectively enter into any negotiations with a riparian owner or tenant with the object of taking over the lease of any waters rented by GAA or previously rented in which the GAA retain an interest in renting will be barred from membership of the GAA until they have appealed successfully to an AGM for reinstatement.

13a. All leases, rents and fishing agreements negotiated by and/or on behalf of GAA, or any section or sub section, to be paid for and be held by the GAA. Any such lease or agreement be also signed by the GAA Secretary and/or Chairman, and should any reimbursement be due, that this be done so by mutual agreement or discretion between the GAA and any section or subsection.

14. The Association waters be closed on March 15th to June 15th, both days inclusive, This is for the coarse fishing stretches of the River Witham Only. All other coarse fishing waters are open all year. GAAFFS waters will be closed from November 1st to March 31st, both days inclusive.

15. No match, sweepstake or competition whatever to take place On Association waters, except by sanction of the Committee. No Pike Fishing (any method) or spinning for Perch until October 1st, ending 14th March on Denton Reservoir.

16. Day Tickets are available on The Grantham Canal Only.

17(a)No person or persons shall have right of access to any GAA waters without they are members of GAA. (This does not include owners of fishing rights).

17(b) A parent or legal guardian may take all his or her children providing they ALL have the appropriate GAA books.

17(c) Due to Health and Safety concerns, and under guidance from our insurers, the minimum age at which a person can join GAA as a junior member is to be set at 5 years of age, and that any angler under the age of 10 years must be accompanied at all times by an adult person over the age of 18 years old, and who is totally responsible for the junior angler in their care. Any junior angler between the ages of 5 and 8 years old (inc) must submit an application through their parent or legal guardian for membership of the GAA. The parent or legal guardian must sign a declaration that they are responsible for the safety and welfare of their charge whilst on GAA waters and land.

17(d) The age at which adult membership commences is now set at 17 years of age on day of purchasing a membership book.

18. The Committee reserve the right to place any GAA waters or stretch of water out of bounds at any time if found desirable.

19. Not more than two rods to be used on any GAA waters at any one time, and distance between rods not more than two metres. ALL ANGLERS MUST HAVE A LANDING NET, WHICH MUST BE USED WHEN REQUIRED.

20. Bad language strictly forbidden.

21. Any member suspecting any person or persons of illegally netting or fishing the Association waters are required to report the same to the Water Bailiffs, or any Committee member.

22. Camping on the banks of any GAA waters is strictly forbidden.

23. No member to take their dog while fishing on any GAA waters.

24. No fires to be lighted on the banks, fishing or not fishing. No boats of any kind. No swimming.

25. No member (fishing or non fishing) to carry firearms of any description, (excluding nominated environmental control officers). Failure to comply, the member will be expelled for life.

26. Access shall only be gained by official access points, ( see GAA waters).

27. Close all gates and use all stiles where provided.

28. Strictly no damage to the banks and bankside vegetation, (i.e. digging the banks and pruning trees).

29 No fish of any species to be taken away from GAA waters this excludes officially sanctioned GAA/EA Nettings or stockings, and members of GAAFFS whilst on officially recognised GAAFFS waters. No gaffs to be used.

30. No tins ( i.e. sweetcorn or luncheon meat) to be taken to GAA waters.

31. No member to leave litter, nylon line, bottles or anglers weights. Any angler caught with any of these at his fishing area may be dealt with under Rule 47.

32. All fish caught must not be held in cloths wet or dry. An adequately sized unhooking mat must be used for the unhooking and safe return of all Carp and Pike.

33. All Grayling, Carp and Barbel to be returned to the water and not retained in keep nets or carp sacks, EXCEPT IN MATCHES.

34. If you must take a radio or music player, see that only you can hear it.

35. Juniors under the age of 16 may only fish the River Witham if accompanied by an adult member.

36. Juniors are not allowed to fish live bait in any Grantham Waters unless accompanied by an adult member of the Association and are being taught this form of angling.

37. No angler must walk away and leave baited tackle in the water.

38. No fish shall be brought to GAA waters. This does not include official netting parties.

39. The taking in any one day fish not exceeding ten in number (excluding minnows and bleak) of which no fish shall exceed 10cm in length (measured from the tip of the mouth to the fork of the tail) or minnows and bleak for his own use for live or dead bait FISHING IN THE WATERS FROM WHICH THE FISH WERE TAKEN.

40. Bailiffs have the authority to order any angler pike fishing without suitable equipment to cease fishing for pike forthwith.

41. ANY FISHERMAN WHO INTERFERES WITH THE SPORT OF OTHER MEMBERS WHO ARE FISHING BY CASTING CLOSE TO OR INTO THEIR SWIMS WILL BE EXPELLED FROM THE ASSOCIATION. THIS PARTICULARLY APPLIES TO SPINNING FOR PIKE AND PERCH.

42. The committee will not tolerate any behavior which jeopardises any lease to any GAA waters.

43.FISHING TIMES ON GAA WATERS: DENTON RESERVOIR AS DETERMINED BY THE WELBY ESTATE Starting Times Month Members to be of the bank by 5.30 AM April 8.30 PM (20.30 hrs) 4.30 AM May 10.00 PM (22.00 hrs) 4.30 AM June 10.15 PM (22.15 hrs) 4.30 AM July 10.00 pm 22.00 hrs) 4.30 AM August 9.15 PM (21.15 hrs) 6.00 AM September 8.00 PM (20.00 hrs) 6.00 AM Up to October clock change 7.00 PM (19.00 hrs) 7.00 AM After October clock change and until March clock change 6.00 PM (19.00 hrs) 6.00 AM After March clock change 8.00 PM (20.00 hrs) All members and their vehicles to be off Welby Estate land, 15 minutes before and after, the starting abd finishing times. NO member to angle in any other waters of the Association before sunrise or after sunset excluding the Fly section , which is one hour before sunrise and one hour after sunset.

44. Any angler (members or not) fishing before or after hours on any waters of the Association may be banned for life from being a member or temporary member. See Rule 48.

45. No line of less than 10lb breaking strain may be used when fishing for Pike.

46. Junior anglers are not allowed to fish on or near exposed weed beds in Denton Reservoir by wading unless accompanied by an adult who will be responsible for their safety.

47. Any infringement of these rules, the member can be Fined, Banned or Expelled; any failure to pay the fine will result in immediate expulsion.

48. There will be no re-instatement to membership following a life ban. Following the decision made at the AGM of 2009 a life ban is permanent.

49. As per AGM a recent photo must be affixed in the appropriate place and signed for membership to be valid.

50. As a condition of membership all members must carry a valid Environment Agency Rod Licence at all times when fishing, and this must be made available on request for inspection by an official GAA Bailiff. Failure to produce the licence may result in the angler being asked to leave the water, and they will be banned from fishing all GAA waters until proof of a licence is given to the GAA Secretary.

Additional rules for Denton Reservoir only: Amendment to rule 19. The use of three rods is now permitted at all times following a rule change at the 2010 Annual General Meeting, anglers are reminded that when fishing three rods, care should be taken at all time not to interfere with the sport of other anglers; the situation will be monitored closely. Remember that when using 3 rods you must be in possession of the appropriate three rod licence or two 2 rod licences. If after a Bailiff's inspection an angler has only one licence, his book will be endorsed and he will only be allowed to fish with two rods, until proof of an additional licence is presented to the GAA Secretary.

There will be no use of braided line whatsoever.

We cannot afford to lose the fishing at Denton Reservoir, please remember that ALL Members are Bailiffs of the Association, you are the eyes and ears of the Association please report any behaviour or actions which may put our lease of Denton Reservoir in jeopardy. Additional rules for QE2 Park. Junior Anglers under instruction. If a junior angler is fishing under instruction at QE Park Pond, then only the junior member is allowed to fish with the tackle, the "instructor" is only allowed to demonstrate fishing techniques, but not allowed to fish with the tackle themselves, they may assist the junior member by helping them to land fish with a landing net, and or unhooking fish caught by the junior member. See also Rule 17 (c).

Amendment to rule 19 Following a rule change at the 2011 Annual General Meeting, anglers are now only allowed to fish using one rod only.
