Rules:

Most importantly, we would like to ask all fishermen and -women to help us preserve a beautiful and unspoilt space in rural Northumberland for all of us to enjoy and for generations to come.

Please use the litter bins provided or take rubbish home We must respect all local wildlife and farm stock in nearby fields Disclaimer

All persons visiting the fishery do so at their own risk. Sweethope Adventure accept no responsibility for any injury, loss or damage to persons or property, howsoever caused.

By paying for a permit, you undertake to accept and abide by the fishery rules. Failure to comply with any of the fishery rules renders the permit void and may place the holder at risk of prosecution.

For the first 3 weeks (April 13th until May 6th), all old rules for Sweethope Fishery still apply. They will then be reviewed and once we have received input from local fishermen and -women they may be adapted. Please contact us with your input.

Before you fish

You must book in at reception on arrival (ideally book your place in advance, especially if you would like a starting time different from the usual session times) Fishing is permitted from sunrise until sunset, strictly no night fishing.

Boats are only available before 8 am and after 5 pm if booked so in advance.

All tickets must be paid for on arrival or at 9 am if you start earlier, in cash (until we get a card reader).

When you arrive, please dip and submerge your nets in the dip tank provided, leave submerged for 15 minutes, then rinse in second tank provided and ideally, leave to dry (whilst you are fishing) to avoid the spread of KHV! (Time for a cup of tea, if you like).

Young people under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Maximum of two people per boat.

You are advised to wear life jackets or buoyancy aids, if confident swimmer, and we can provide those at no cost.

The catch return sheet must be filled in with your name and permit number BEFORE fishing can commence. (Valid Rod License required!) Details of all fish caught, including those returned, must be entered at the end of the day. This includes nil returns.

During fishing

Catch and Return only of Brown Trout (please use non-barbed hooks only)

Wading is only allowed in designated areas, surrounding the Great Lough. In 'no wading' areas anglers are NOT allowed to enter the water, except when landing or returning fish.

A maximum of 3 rods per angler, only one rod to be used at any time. No pegging of rods/reels to the bank at any time.

Sweethope is a fly fishing venue only, flies dressed on single point hooks are allowed.

These must be barbless (conventional hooks with barbs removed are acceptable).

Double, treble, multi-hook flies, flicker spoons and propellers are not allowed.

Buoyant patterns such as boobys and floating fry fished on sinking lines are allowed for fish that are to be kept and they are not allowed for catch and release.

No monofilament line of more than 10lb breaking strain shall be used.

There is a maximum of 3 flies to be used in a team of flies.

All fish caught must be landed with a landing net, those fish to be kept must be dispatched quickly, fish to be returned should be handled gently (preferably while still in the water).

Any fish, which shows signs of bleeding or stress, must be KILLED and counted as part of the limit.

The use of Ultrabite or any other bite attracting substance is strictly forbidden.

Fishing must cease when your limit had be caught and the fish caught must be recorded in the office (i.e. if you are on 3 fish ticket, keep two fish and wait to keep your last fish until you decide to call it a day)

Sweethope 2015 Opening hours and policy

Sweethope remains primarily a fly fishery and angling activities will always take precedence. We will be open for fishing from March to December and the office will be manned from 8.00a.m. until 5.00.p.m. If the fishery manager is not about later or earlier than these times simply fill in your ticket, put your fees in the envelope provided and post it through the returns box. You are welcome to fish as early or as late as you want during the hours of daylight.

There may be some water sports and other activities taking place at the venue but these will be controlled by our associates from Beck's Training and will not impinge upon anglers' enjoyment of their sport.

As a result of suggestions from visiting anglers we will be placing 4moorings and 2 rowing boats on the lower lake next week.

There will be a single occupancy boat rate of £5 instead of £7, £7 instead of £10 and £10 instead of £14 for 4, 6 and 8hour hire. This should help reduce the cost of fishing for those who do not have a boat partner with whom to share costs.

For those who would like to come and fish the evening rise we will introduce a flat charge of £6 for a 2hour session. Anyone who wishes to take fish can do so and pay for their fish at a flat rate of £4 per fish.

Finally I will introduce a loyalty card next week. Once you have 5 stamps you will be entitled to a free 4hour session with a boat.

I hope these changes meet with your approval and look forward to seeing you soon.
