Description:

Pottery Pond Strensall York is a specimen pond covering 5 acres set in woodland holding carp upto 30lb, Pike upto 30lb, Bream into double figures and a good head of them aswel, Tench upto 10lb and a mixture of other coarse fish including monster perch, crucian carp and small eels. Fishing here can be difficult as there are many specimen fish in here going for only certain baits but days on the pole and feeder can give good mixed bags of roach, skimmers, perch and bream, tench being included.

Carp will as always be around the various features the venue has to offer islands, bushes in the water and lilly beds but the Pike seem to have been caught all around the pond wherever you see scattering small roach they seem to be. You find plenty of roach and skimmers falling victim to the pike on drawing in your fish. I generally only fish for the bream and mixed bags on the feeder or pole, feeder fishing is best in the middle of the lake casting regulary from the north bank oppersite the car park, have a look at the map picture for location, the north bank has a much faster drop off down to 6ft being at about 5mtrs from the bank so when pole fishing here most bags of bream will be caught from about 11-13m out where it is nice clear deeper water. Fishing the shelf at 5m close into the bank will produce big bags of roach and skimmers but find the jack pike will just sit picking them off the hook as they want them so feeding a little further out tends to keep the pike away from the bank.

Fishing the left bay from the car park is again very good on the pole, fishing the pegs from mid way down to the corner of the north bank again shelf to 6ft is about 5m out but you will find better fish at the 11-13m mark with your hook just on the botttom feeding often with partical baits and ground bait at the start of the session to draw the fish in. Good hook baits are chopped worm, meat and pellets, maggots when the bites slow up will always take the roach and skimmers. Been honest not really fished other parts of the pond such as the newer part to the right of the car park which looks very promising with its islands and lilly beds through the summer months and the west bank which I have been told can produce some very good bags of tench upto November.
