Description:
This water is one of a number of reservoirs in South Yorkshire that offer year round sport to anglers who are willing to put the effort in. The water is situated within a country park and as such it can get very busy during the warmer months and at weekends. Anglers also share the water with the private Yacht club who mainly sail on weekends and on some evenings during the summer months. Matches are held on the water but generally only one bank will be taken leaving the others for day ticket use.
The water dates back to 1874, created out of diverting the brooks of Ulley and Morthen in order to provide the town of Rotherham with drinking water.
Since the early 80's the water no longer supplies drinking water to the town. No longer used by the Water Board it was sold to Rotherham council for the princely sum of £1.00 who then turned the venue into the park.
Initially stocking was of trout and coarse fish but now only the coarse fish remain. The 12 hectares of water is up to 40ft deep in places and can be very daunting to the angler visiting the water for the first time. s this lake you need to either call or pop down and see us.
