KILLINGWORTH LAKE RULES AND REGULATIONS:

The following is a comprehensive list of rules and regulations applicable to all users of Killingworth Lake.

1. Users must at all times carry a minimum of £1 million indemnity valid Third Party Insurance and the permit holder hereby agrees to indemnify North Tyneside Council, or its agents, against all claims, actions, demands, injuries, costs, charges, expenses and liabilities which may be incurred by the Council, or its agents, as a result as granting the permit on the exercise of any right hereunder.

2. Users of Killingworth Lake must abide by any by-laws, rules or temporary rules that are laid down in connection with the use of Killingworth Lake at all times.

3. All persons entering on to Killingworth Lake for whatever reason must comply with any direction given by an Officer of North Tyneside Council and failure to comply with these directions can result in the banning of that person and his or her craft from the lake.

4. No craft shall be launched on Killingworth Lake until a permit has been received.

5. Permits must be shown if challenged during times of use.

6. Killingworth Lake has designated prohibited zones that are closed to all craft with the exception of Zone B that has been set aside for the use of water sports craft. These zones are shown on the attached map. All craft shall be launched from the slipways in the North West corner of Zone B.

7. Access to all slipways must be kept clear at all times with no equipment or trailers causing an obstruction to other users. The slipway gates MUST remain closed when not in use.

8. By signing the application for a permit, users are confirming they or an appropriate number within their group are competent in the use of the water craft being used. This includes being proficient in the basic manoeuvres, including forwards, backwards, left and right turns and controlled stopping of the craft.

9. A full risk assessment must be completed by the individual or competent person for a group or club prior to them using the lake and submitted along with the completed permit application form.

10. All water craft must have appropriate buoyancy fitted before setting out on Killingworth Lake.

11. All persons using Killingworth Lake must wear appropriate clothing for the prevailing weather, water conditions, craft being used and their level of ability. All Personal Protective Equipment must confirm to the relevant CE EN number.

12. Persons under the age of 16 using the lake must be under the supervision of a competent adult. Children under the age of 4 are not permitted to use the lake.

13. All permit holders must show consideration for other lake users.

14. It is advised that all participants are proficient swimmers.

15. No alcohol should be consumed prior to or during your time on the lake.

16. The owner or person(s) in charge of each water craft are responsible for ensuring it is suitable for use on the lake and that it is properly equipped and maintained.



BE PREPARED

Conditions on the lake can change quickly. No Matter what the forecast is, be prepared. Plan your day well, with all your group members if applicable. Water sports are Assumed risk Water contact sports that may carry attendant risks. Participants should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.

Please note there is no rescue craft on the lake and the site is not manned at all times.

The nearest public toilet facilities can be found at the Lakeside Sport Centre across the road next to George Stephenson High School.
