Description: With 16 well stocked and carefully managed lakes on our beautifully scenic site, we are confident we can supply every angler visiting us with a fishing experience they will never forget.

Whether you are specimen carp angler looking to smash a personal best, a match angler looking for a bumper haul or a pleasure rod who merely enjoys a relaxed days fishing, we know we can cater for you.

You might even spot the blue flash of one of our resident Kingfishers as they dart along the river course in search of stickleback or minnow for their lunch.

On arrival to phase 1, you will see the large Car Park, Tackleshop and Cafe with lake 1 directly in front of you.

Rules: for 2023 and 2024

After conducting a series of hook and bait checks on our anglers, it seems that not everyone is deciding to follow the rules including some members!

Makins Fishery has only ever allowed Barbless hooks to be used on the lakes, any kind of barbed hook is strictly banned.

Makins Fishery feed pellets ONLY to be used on this fishery (this includes PVA Bags), these can only be bought in our onsite tackle and bait shop in sizes 2mm/4mm/6mm/8mm. The pellet rule has been in place since Easter.

We will now be performing DAILY hook and bait checks, anglers will receive ONE WARNING if they are not using makins fishery feed pellets. Repeat offenders will be banned, and if the offender is a member they will lose their membership.

We dont have a lot of rules, but please follow the ones we have please.

Hooks and rods

Barbless hooks only - maximum size 10 or size 6

On lake 1. No micro, pinched barb, or crushed

Down barbs of any kind! Any angler found using

Catches and nets:

Fishing from designated pegs only.

Landing nets must be used.

Put fish back immediately.



Baits and pellets:

No blood-worm and or joker or tiger nuts.

No floating baits.

No cat or dog meat.

Makins own fishery feed pellets only to be used

You can use any groundbait, hookbaits, method

Mix, etc. Please ask if unsure.

No bait boats.

No bread between april and october, bread can be

Used as a hook bait only between november and march.



Not permitted on site:

No boats or rubber dinghies.

No dogs, cyclists, bikes or motorbikes, open fires, bbqs, alcohol or drugs.

Please take your litter home with you or use the onsite bins.

No paddling or swimming, water is deep and extremely cold!

No unsociable or rowdy behaviour, anyone causing a nuisance will be told to leave.

A current ea licence is required.

Juniors must be accompanied by an adult whilst

Visitors:

Visitors should report to reception on arrival.



Warning:

Anyone found to be breaking any of these rules

Will be told to leave the fishery without a Refund.

Grass banks and mud can be slippery, take care.

Beware of deep water!

The management reserve the right to refuse Admission and accept no responsibility for any loss, damage or injury whilst on our site.

No dogs allowed around the lakes.

Dogs are allowed on the campsite and caravan field.

No dogs are allowed around the lakes!

Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times.



Match rules:

Makins open match fishing times-11.00am-5.00pm All other times to be agreed when booking.



Match Rules:

1. When you arrive at your peg, keep nets must be pegged out behind you. You may place your nets into the water 10 minutes before the match starts.

2. All keep nets and landing nets to be soft Fish friendly nets.

3. Minimum of 2 keepnets to be used and must be in the water from the start of the match,

Anglers should take 3 to 4 nets.

On all phases there must be 2 nets in the water from the start of the match. Fish must be split, Carp in one net and silver fish and carp below 3lb in another net. Maximum of 60lb in any net, 60lb to 70lb to count only as 60lb, above 70lb the net is disqualified. Please split fish evenly. All fish that are netted must be transferred in to a keepnet via the landing net.

No dropping netted fish into a keepnet.

5. If you use feed pellets they must only be Makins fishery own pellets. No other feed pellets to be taken to the bank. You can use any

Make of groundbait, sweetcorn etc as feed in reasonable quantities.

No feeding with pole whilst fishing a rod. Leads only to be used when clipping up. No feeders to enter the water before the match starts.

6. Each angler is allowed 1/2 pint of hook pellets.

Which can be any carp friendly pellet. No marine or halibut pellet or trout pellet of any kind. You are not allowed to feed hooker pellets or expanding pellets.

7. Meat is allowed, 3 tins maximum. No Dog or Cat food.

8. No feeding or fishing floating baits at all On the fishery. This is to protect the wildlife.



Rules:

9. Bait bans, no bloodworm, joker, no floating baits.

10.No throwing unused bait in after match has ended!

11. No braded hook lengths or mainline.

12. All litter must be put in the bins provided.

Unused bait to be put in the bins or take it Home.

13. Shallow fishing! You must use a float when Fishing shallow on the pole, that is not over shotted.

14. Any issues inform the match organizer A/s/a/p.

15. Maximum match duration 6 hours, subject to change during hot and humid weather periods, this is to protect the fish stock.

16. New for 2024, bread will not be allowed on the fishery from april-october. Can be used as a hookbait only during the winter months.
