Description: Coate Water Swindon is a Country Park near the centre of the town. It is popular with locals and out-of-town visitors. One reason is because it has a big lake.

General Fishery Rules:

1. The season is from 16th June to 14th March inclusive.

2. There will be no pre-baiting, marking or feature finding during the closed season. Permit holders are permitted from the 1st of June.

3. Day tickets are valid from 7.30am to dusk. Day tickets can be purchased either from the Activity Centre or on the bank from a Locality Engagement Officers. Day season permits are only available in advance.

4. Fishing prior to 7.30am by 24 hr permit only.

5. No Anglers are to be on site before 7.30am on June 15th and may not put any rods out until Midnight. All swims shall be vacated prior to midnight on the 14th March.

6. Blue Badge holders may park up by the Pitch and Putt Office. All other anglers must use the designated main car park which is covered by CCTV.

7. Able bodied anglers must give way to disabled anglers in designated disabled fishing areas.

8. All incidents or accidents involving wildlife must be reported immediately to the Locality Engagement Officers.

9. All anglers over 12 years of age must be in possession of a current Environment Agency Rod Licence.

10. Anglers under the age of 16 are permitted to use a maximum of one rod. Anglers aged 16 and over may use up to three rods providing they do not interfere with other anglers in adjacent swims.

11. Fish are not to be killed. No live or dead fish are to be taken away. (Dead fish should be reported to the Locality Engagement Officers for recording and disposal.)

12. No Live Baiting.

13. Fishing in the nature reserve is strictly prohibited; failure to adhere may lead to prosecution.

14. Anglers are personally responsible for the removal of ALL litter and discarded fishing line in and around their swim.

15. Keep nets to be the type and size recommended by the Environment Agency. They mustnot be used in hot weather, except for booked matches or as agreed with the Locality Engagement Officers.

16. A 42" or larger landing net and large unhooking mat must be used at all times when fishing for Carp and Pike. All Carp and Pike must be returned to the water immediately, unless a carp sack or pike tube is being used.

17. Booked fishing matches take priority over day tickets and all season permits. All anglers must vacate booked swims 2 hours before advertised match time. If in doubt please check notice boards in the car park or at the Activity Centre prior to fishing.

18. EA Bylaw.On no account should baited rods be left unattended or unsupervised Swindon Borough Council will not accept responsibility for any fishing tackle lost, damaged or stolen.

19. No fisherman will barricade a swim or leave equipment unattended. If this occurs this may result in suspension of your permit.

20. Only barbless hooks are to be used.

21. No dogs will be allowed to accompany anglers at any time.

22. To protect surrounding habitat and vegetation fishing should be from designated swims only. Any vegetation deemed to be an obstruction should be reported to Mark Jennings the Compliance Officer or, the Locality Engagement Officers.

23. For Health and Safety reasons wading is not permitted.

24. For Health and Safety reasons anglers are not permitted to use any form of watercraft on the lake. Bait boats may be used at the discretion of the Council.

25. All anglers under the age of 18 years must leave the site by dusk and will not be allowed to return until 7.30am the following morning.

26. No bivvy is to be pitched on the North Dam Wall path or verges, between the shelter and the overflow area at any time.

27. No Fisherman will use the North Dam Wall Shelter for cooking or as a replacement bivvy/umbrella or storage area.

28. All swims must be vacated after 72 hours and no return within 24 hours to rotate swims.

29. One angler and one bivvy permitted on each designated swim.

All Bylaws and regulations of Swindon Borough Council and those of the Environment Agency must be observed at all times. Non-compliance with the rules will lead to an immediate removal of the permit without compensation. The decision of an Environmental Agency Bailiff or authorised Officer of Swindon Borough Council will be final.

All permits remain the property of Swindon Borough Council or its approved representative.
