Floater fishing is where you use floating baits, for example just a bread slice, or dog biscuits, pellets, cereals or floating carp boillies. Also the use of artificial baits and how to present them, and cast them further distances.
Here in this picture, is a picture of a bubble float. This type of float is best for surface fishing with the above types of baits, if you need to cast out further than where you could place the bait without the need to cast. The float also has 2 holes with bungs, in which you can fill it with the amount of water you require to make it heavier, in order to cast it further or refine your tactics, by how the float sits in the water for example.
